The Champion

There was one Ashar who had renounced Ulhaeron, even from the first days, when the God-King yet appeared as a visionary leader, and had lured many to submit to his wise rule.

Caldonas had brazenly defied Ulhaeron's call, because he had seen the latter's concealed ambition.
Some legends say, that for this stance, Ulhaeron placed a curse on Caldonas making him incapable of any work of creation, but only destruction. Other legends say that Caldonas had always been like this. The only one, among all the gods, whose power was to destroy and dismantle.

Regardless of the truth of these things, and despite the kind of his power, Caldonas had a deep love and affection for the work of creation. Such was his love of creation that it transcended envy, and it made him wander throughout the birthing universe. Fearful of his own powers, Caldonas held them all within, and searched endlessly for a cure of his curse, or at least some form of salvation.

His quest led him to the confines of the known universe, where nothing but the darkness of beyond awaited. But then Caldonas gazed down below into the gathering darkness of the nightmare and saw the Colgatha emerge from the Abyss, devouring the hapless wayward stars that had escaped the safety of Yrion. In that moment, Caldonas had found his redemption. He turned his destructive fire upon the abominations, burning them to cinders.

But he was alone and the Colgatha were seemingly endless. Thus he returned to Yrion and gathered others to him, to defend the Dream from the Eternal Nightmare of the Abyss. Those who joined him paid a heavy price. They sacrificed their powers of creation forever. But in exchange, they became a powerful force that kept the Dream safe.

Thus the Cal'ashan came to be. Caldonas led the Cal'ashan and other allies who chose to help, but did not make the sacrifice, at the edge of Yrion, to the border of the encroaching Eternal Nightmare of Khanoth. There they had vast Bastions built and waged war upon the endless abyssal horrors that sought to spread the Nightmare into Yrion.

And when, perchance the darkness of Khanoth was silent, they wandered in Yrion seeking other foes to fight, Caldonas led the Cal'ashan in patrols across Yrion, in search for other perils to fight. It was in this way that they first encountered the demonic Khorgons destroying realms that chose not to submit to Ulhaeron's might.

And so, besides standing as stalwart guardians of Yrion against the Horrors of Khanoth, since those ancient times, Caldonas and the Cal'ashan became the most bitter foes of Ulhaeron. In time this conflict would escalate into the greatest war that ever swept across the cosmos.
