The Eight Forces

But Caldonas and Ulhaeron were far from the only forces in the vastness of Yrion.

There were many others, most with their own individual ideals or agendas.

And that was exactly the problem. As Ulhaeron's power spread across Yrion, few had realized that they had no hope against him on their own, but if, perhaps, they would unite, then they had more than a chance. Yet Ulhaeron was cunning and sent many of his followers all across Yrion, and his agents brought discord and disagreement among those who conspired to oppose him.

And thus his power and influence continued to grow, and even the occasional loss of some of his Khorgons in battle against Caldonas and the Cal'ashan was little more than a petty nuisance for the mighty God-King.

And yet, against the odds, a coalition formed, centered around the eight wisest and mightiest of both the Ashar and the Vaenu. The story of this formation is a tale in its own right. What will be told here is that eventually, each of the Eight came to represent a singular aspect of creation. Together they were simply known as the Eight Forces, or Aldoren, and they stood opposite Ulhaeron, as liberators, their quest to work together to inspire rather than dominate, and to free those who lived in fear of Ulhaeron and his growing power.

The leaders of the Aldoren were a couple. Aellon of the Ashar and Nuviel of the Vaenu. Aellon was the Lord of Light and the cosmic aspect of Justice. It is said that Aellon alone among all the ancients could communicate with Akaon the all-begetter.

Nuviel was the Lady of Stars, and the cosmic aspect of Mercy. It is likewise said, that Nuviel alone of all the Vaenu could hear the voice of Nyris in times of great need.

All of the Aldoren worked in pairs, thus representing harmony and balance of power, but Aellon and Nuviel alone were an actual couple, and their love was legendary.

The second pair of the Aldoren were Elora of the Ashar, and Kaehir of the Vaenu. Elora was the Lady of Flame and the cosmic aspect of Truth. Kaehir was the Lord of the Forge, and the cosmic aspect of Creation.

The third pair were Admon of the Ashar and Selassea of the Vaenu. Admon was the Lord of Magic and the cosmic aspect of Wisdom. Selassea was the Lady of Dreams, and the cosmic aspect of Change.

The last pair of the Aldoren were Thaeron of the Ashar and Yriel of the Vaenu. Thaeron was the Lord of Thunder and the cosmic aspect of Strength. Yriel was the Lady of Water and the cosmic aspect of Life.

Together, the Aldoren created a haven of sublime beauty. They named that sacred place Akuinor, and it became a refuge of hope in the growing despair that was spreading across Yrion, as Ulhaeron's empire expanded. Of course, in light of these events, what followed next seemed inevitable.
